The trouble with Wikies[]

The problem with the whole Wiki thing? Long before there was the Wiki ther existed a perfectly good thing called HyperText Markup Language. Some of you will know it as HTML. So, when wikis came along they invented a WHOLE NEW MARKUP, when the perfectly good one existed. Tesral 23:57, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

There's lots of computer languages, and they all have their special focus. Pascal is good at parsing strings. Cobol and Fortran are good with numbers. Basic is general-all-purpose. C++ is super-efficient. HTML is good for formatting text and images on web pages. Wikimarkup easily navigates a wiki's potentially huge database. It's just one more thing we get to learn.  :-) Richmerk 04:34, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Line Indents[]

Tremendous work on the wiki, Garry. 38 articles and probably 37 of those are yours. :-) One comment... I'm not a fan of the line indents you are doing. They're not web page standard. They make the pages look sloppy. Just my opinion of course. :-) - Richmerk 03:26, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Indents are however print standard. I always considered the lack of proper paragraphing sloppy of web pages. Likewise the lack of proper margin controls and so forth. Bookmakers have spent the last 2000 plus years finding out what made a readable book. It is margins, white space, line indents on paragraphs even. 2000 years of progress and knowledge tossed out by web designers.
I find pages with busy backgrounds and wall to wall text difficult to read. Sadly the book designers have jumped on the latest trends and abandoned what they knew worked. I find those books that have been "web designed" unreadable as well. All that wall to wall printing costs, so the price of those unreadable books goes up, a kick in the pants and a slap in the face..
One thing I have never heard about my web pages is that they are "unreadable". Tesral 23:17, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Unfinished Articles[]
